My name is Emily. I started this blog while in college & trying to eat bento lunches. Two years later, I've started making bentos for my fiance's lunch as well as for my own enjoyment. I hope to document my experiments with different recipes & bento accessories here. Thank you for stopping by & feel free to visit my other blog, expansions.

last wednesday's lunch

i promise, promise, promise to update on time this week! you'll be receiving a monday lunch and a wednesday lunch post :)

that being said, here is last wednesday's lunch/afternoon snack bento:

Top left box:
    -Vanilla yogurt

Top right box:
    -White rice, leftover from dinner
    -Soy sauce packet

Bottom box:
   -Mixed Greens salad
-My handmade bottle for salad dressing (made from a empty sprinkle jar).
    -Green apple slices
    -Cup of peanut butter
    -Turkey sandwich on wheat

It was a lot of food and I ended up bring the rice & sandwich home with me for later!
I also barely had room in my backpack for the box after a stop by the bookstore for a health book and a math one. I think I will only use this box on days where I know I am going to have a light load to carry to school! :)

Sorry I've been gone!

Much has changed in my schedule--I quit my job at the call center, mainly, so I briefly neglected this site. Sorry about that! Here is one lonely bento I made as a snack on the way to visit my boyfriend (<3) two weekends ago to help cheer you up! ^_^

Top Box:
    -Carrots cut into hearts
-Kiwis, cut using the tutorial from Lunch In A Box (awesome site!)
-Little cup filled with Candied Almonds (yum yum yum!)

Bottom box:
-Slightly less then half of a homemade cheese pizza.

Overall, I really liked this box--especially the top tier. It was really yummy and totally easy to make before my trip.

Bento #3

I won this box at work for winning caller bingo one week...yey!

Top tier:
-Green apple slices & chedder cheese
    -Carrot "wheels"
    -Lime wedges for my water

Bottom tier:
-Brown rice (oh come on, I'm always going to have it!)
    -Baked Tofu (My first attempt...)
    - Three Amy's brand spinach feta bites

I tried to make this box "cute" by making a little flag for it because I didn't have any toothpicks like I wanted to originally stick in the carrot wheel stacks....*sigh*

Oh well, I'm excited to eat it tomorrow! >.<

First Bento (made last Monday).

I know the upper left hand little box looks funny, so I'll start with the contents of that one:
-Kettle Corn Mini Rice Cakes (didn't live up to my expectations).
    -5 or 6 Milk Duds
    - 5 or 6 pieces of dried pineapple

To the right we have peach flavored applesauce (delicious! I was so excited to actually find some up here!)

and in the big box we have:
-Brown rice with bbq tofu (& lots 'o green onions) on top
    - Carrot sticks
-Morningstar mini scrambles bites (with spinach and cheese).

This bento was made for last Monday, my first day of school, as I am on campus from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Not too shabby for my first one, especially with the grocery budget I currently have...but I am looking to improve my bento skills as well :-)
Another problem was that I forgot to bring a fork and had to "steal" one from Starbucks on campus...whoops!
